Backstage refresh and plugin repository separation

Source date: August 13-14, 2026
Specific workSplit the codebase into topic-specific plugin repositories, granted Aspirations-Team access to them, and kept moving backend plugins and scaffolder modules onto the new backend system.
Team Lead contributionShared both the legacy and refreshed repositories with the team, enabled access, prepared the planning material, and pointed contributors at the refreshed structure for new work.
Backstage SME contributionDefined the refreshed architecture, the plugin boundaries, the source-of-truth model, and the approach for consuming versioned plugin releases.
Outcome / statusOngoing. The August 13 status report lists repository separation, release publishing, backend migration, and refreshed build consumption as in progress.
BlockersDeployment environment, GitHub App setup, OAuth permissions, secret rotation, template-shape decisions, and parallel-run work were listed as unresolved in alignment material.
Follow-upFinish remaining plugin families, update templates, create deployment pipeline and namespace, migrate catalog data, and execute cutover.

Refresh deployment and legacy cutover

Source date: August 12-13, 2026
Specific workPrepared the migration plan spanning a refreshed local instance, deployment to a dedicated namespace, parallel operation alongside the legacy portal, and eventual decommissioning.
Team Lead contributionCarried the decision points, prerequisites, ownership gaps, and next-step tasks into the alignment discussions.
Backstage SME contributionExplained the technical dependency chain across plugin releases, CI, registry push, Kubernetes identity, the new namespace, Flux, and catalog migration.
Outcome / statusPlanned. The schedule targeted a local refresh on August 14 and go-live of the refreshed instance at its own URL on August 18, preceded by a parallel-run comparison; the sources do not confirm completion.
BlockersParallel URL or new domain, Kubernetes environment, CI/CD workflow updates, GitHub App installs, OAuth scope, secret handling, and a handful of unresolved design decisions.
Follow-upAssign owners and dates, stand up the refresh environment, run legacy and refresh side by side, verify the data matches, then switch over.
Jira / deliverableMigration plan deliverables; no single Jira ticket identified for the whole cutover.
